International News: U.S. imposes Visa restrictions on Central American Nationals working with Chinese Communist Party

By Zoila Palma:  The United States has announced a new visa restriction policy targeting Central American nationals accused of working with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to undermine the rule of law in the region.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the policy will restrict U.S. visas for individuals who “knowingly direct, authorize, fund, provide significant support to, or carry out activities that undermine the rule of law in Central America.”

Immediate family members of those sanctioned will also be ineligible for entry.

According to Rubio, the move reflects Washington’s determination to counter Beijing’s growing influence in the hemisphere.

“These actions reaffirm President Trump’s commitment to protect America’s economic prosperity and national security interests in our region,” the statement read.

The visa actions were taken under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Rubio emphasized that the United States will “continue to use all available tools to promote safety and security of our region,” stressing that accountability remains a top priority for those who, in his words, “intentionally work with the CCP in Central America and destabilize our hemisphere.”
