“U.S. Embassy personnel have been told to shelter in place. There is a planned Guatemalan press conference to provide additional details,” the U.S. Embassy noted
Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo declared a State of Emergency on Sunday evening following riots in 3 prisons across Guatemala.
Gang member inmates reportedly held 46 workers hostage and there were attacks at the police in which 8 members of the Policia Nacional Civil lost their lives.
