By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia is warning tourists against the use of dating apps in Colombia following the “suspicious deaths” of 8 American tourists in two months.

According to BBC, the deaths of the tourists occurred in Medellin, Cartagena and Bogota.

Travellers are being told to avoid isolated locations like hotel rooms.

Criminals are reportedly using the apps to lure victims to public spaces like restaurants and bars, where they can be assaulted, robbed and even killed.

Violent crimes against foreign visitors in Colombia increased by 200% near the end of last year.
