By Zoila Palma:  Today, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has issued an alert following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake southwest of Huixtla and the tremors recorded in Ciudad Hidalgo.

“I spoke with the governors of Chiapas and Tabasco, who have reported no damage so far. Emergency protocols have been activated in neighboring states.

The Mexican Navy is advising the public to stay away from beaches over the next six hours due to the risk of a tsunami. It is important to follow the recommendations of Civil Protection authorities,” President Sheinbaum said.

The US Tsunami Warning System has advised government agencies responsible for areas under the tsunami warning to “inform and instruct” any coastal populations at risk.

President Sheinbaum said that authorities from all three levels of government are conducting inspections to assess any possible structural damage and coordinate preventive measures. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
