By Zoila Palma: Today, U.S. President Donald Trump said that American military forces have begun clearing the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that has been disrupted by recent tensions.
In a social media post, Trump stated that the operation was underway and claimed that all 28 Iranian “mine dropper boats” had been sunk.
“We’re now starting the process of clearing out the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote, adding that the vessels were “lying at the bottom of the sea.”
His comments came shortly after reports emerged of U.S. naval activity in the strait, with an Axios journalist citing an unnamed U.S. official who said several American ships had entered the waterway.
However, Iranian state television reported a denial from a military official in Iran, disputing the presence of U.S. ships in the area.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global oil supplies, has effectively been closed due to fears of Iranian attacks on shipping, causing disruptions to energy markets worldwide.
