By Zoila Palma: Today, U.S. President Donald Trump voiced frustration with key U.S. allies as escalating conflict with Iran and rising global oil prices pushed average U.S. gasoline costs above $4 per gallon.
In a social media post, Trump urged allies to “go get your own oil,” criticizing their reluctance to provide greater support to the ongoing war effort.
According to AP, the remarks followed intensified military activity in the region, including U.S. strikes on the Iranian city of Isfahan, home to one of the country’s main nuclear sites, and an Iranian attack on a Kuwaiti oil tanker in the Persian Gulf.
The conflict has had a significant impact on global oil flows, particularly due to Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply moves.
The disruption has driven Brent crude prices to about $107 per barrel, marking an increase of more than 45 percent since the conflict began on February 28, while also contributing to broader economic instability and rising costs of goods.
Trump directed particular criticism at countries including France, Spain, and Italy for restricting U.S. military operations linked to the conflict.
France was singled out for limiting overflight access, while Spain closed its airspace to U.S. aircraft involved in the war and Italy denied use of a key air base in Sicily.
