By Zoila Palma: U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked controversy by blaming Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky for the ongoing war with Russia, Independent reports.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Trump claimed Ukraine “started the war” and accused Zelensky of mishandling the situation. He criticized Zelensky’s approval ratings, pointing out the lack of elections in Ukraine due to martial law.
Zelensky, responding to Trump, defended his leadership, highlighting his 73% electoral support.
Trump also dismissed Zelensky’s complaints about not being invited to U.S.-Russia peace talks, suggesting the conflict could have been avoided with a deal.
Trump’s remarks were supported by Elon Musk, who agreed with Trump’s view that Zelensky seeks money and power.
Meanwhile, Zelensky postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia after the U.S. and Russia held talks about ending the war.
The talks, which excluded Ukraine, were condemned by Zelensky, who expressed concerns about negotiations happening “behind Ukraine’s back.”
