By Zoila Palma: The Trump administration has reportedly revoked the U.S. visas of at least 50 Mexican politicians and government officials as part of its intensified campaign against drug cartels and their alleged political allies, Fox reports.
The officials include members of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s ruling Morena Party, as well as figures from other political groups.
Among those acknowledging the loss of visas is Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila, who has denied any links to organized crime.
While the U.S. State Department has not confirmed the details, a spokesperson stated that visas may be revoked for various reasons that violate U.S. law or national interests.
The official emphasized that visas are a privilege, not a right, and reaffirmed that Washington continues to maintain a cooperative relationship with Mexico in line with President Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy agenda.
