By Zoila Palma: The Spanish humanitarian organization Open Arms has delivered seven tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba after its sailing vessel, Astral, arrived at the Port of Havana on Sunday.
The shipment, destined for the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital, includes solar panels, replacement batteries, and medical supplies aimed at strengthening critical healthcare services amid Cuba’s worsening economic and energy crisis, telesur reports.
The aid is part of the “Heading to Cuba” campaign, launched by Open Arms alongside more than 150 political and social organizations.
The vessel completed a 6,200-mile journey after departing Barcelona in May.
According to Open Arms, the mission was financed through donations from more than 4,000 supporters, raising over €160,000 (US$182,816).
The equipment will provide energy autonomy for the hospital’s intensive care unit, intermediate care unit, and clinical laboratory, helping to ensure essential medical services remain operational during frequent power outages.
