Portugal advanced after finishing second in Group K behind Colombia, while Croatia secured second place in Group L to book their place in the knockout stage.
Ronaldo, who made his FIFA World Cup debut in 2006 when Portugal finished fourth, is aiming to help his country reach the semifinals for the first time since that tournament. Portugal has not returned to the final four of the World Cup in the two decades since.
