By Zoila Palma:  The fourth round of trade talks between Mexico and the United States will not take place next week and could instead be held in October, according to Mexico’s Deputy Economy Minister for Foreign Trade Luis Rosendo Gutierrez.

Gutierrez said the postponement is linked to scheduling conflicts, including Chinese President Xi Jinping’s planned visit to the United States and the upcoming G20 summit. Despite the delay in formal negotiations, he said technical coordination with the US Trade Representative’s Office continues on a daily basis.

The talks are aimed at reaching an interim bilateral agreement that could provide Mexico with relief from some US tariffs while addressing Washington’s concerns over automotive content and Chinese investment.

Gutierrez said Mexico’s priority is reducing Section 232 tariffs on steel, aluminum and automobiles.
