By Zoila Palma: Mexican authorities have arrested 17 suspected cartel members, including 10 former Colombian soldiers, following a deadly landmine blast that killed six soldiers in Michoacán earlier this week.
The attack destroyed an armored military vehicle in the cartel-dominated region of Los Reyes, AFP reports.
Authorities seized over 40 explosive devices and additional weapons during the operation.
President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the killings as “deplorable” and pledged support for the victims’ families.
Michoacán has seen frequent violence involving landmines and explosive drones used by warring criminal groups. Since 2006, drug-related violence has claimed nearly 480,000 lives across Mexico.
