By Zoila Palma: Mexican drug cartels are reportedly using kamikaze drones and explosives to target U.S. Border Patrol agents, according to an internal memo.
The memo warns federal agents to stay alert, reminding them to wear ballistic armor and use long firearms, as cartel leaders have authorized drones with explosives to target U.S. personnel along the southern border.
The warning, issued on February 1, 2025, cites social media posts from cartels encouraging violence against Border Patrol agents, including urging illegal immigrants to harass officers, Fox reports.
This comes amid increased border security measures under the Trump administration, which has ramped up deportation efforts and border control initiatives.
The cartels are said to be reacting to the growing U.S. presence along the border, which could disrupt their drug and human trafficking operations. Border Patrol agents have also recently faced gunfire from cartel members in Mexico.
U.S. Senator Mike Lee has even suggested allowing private security firms to target drug cartels, aiming to disrupt their operations more effectively.
