By Aaron Humes: Interim United Democratic Party (UDP) Leader Hugo Patt says he has intervened in the matter of the planned National Party Council meeting scheduled for Saturday, June 14.
In a statement today, Patt said, “In my capacity as interim Party Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), I sent Mr. Alberto August, Acting Party Chairman, a letter dated June 10, 2025. In this letter. I formally directed a postponement of the National Party Council (NPC) meeting, which he summoned for Saturday, June 14 in order to allow for my participation along with him in a comprehensive review of the delegates’ list prior to any NPC meeting.”
Patt says August refused his request and so he is warning NPC members that the meeting should be boycotted as it is “being held against my wishes and despite my clear direction to him for postponement and review of the delegates’ list.”
Patt adds, “Please be assured that we will be taking the necessary steps to reschedule a legitimate meeting of the NPC at the earliest opportunity.”
The meeting was intended to begin the party’s process of reconciliation after another thumping defeat in the March general election, but Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar-Panton and other Party grandees were reportedly notably left off the list.
