By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 54-year-old homeless woman well known on the streets of downtown Belize City has once again been convicted in court, this time for possession of a small quantity of crack cocaine.
Shelmadine Fisher appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. She was charged with possession of a controlled drug following an incident on April 18 along Cemetery Road.
Police reported that Fisher was found with 0.1 grams of crack cocaine. She wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charge.
As a result, Fisher was handed a non-custodial sentence and fined $300 plus $5 in court costs. She has until June 30, 2026 to pay the total of $305, in default of which she will serve two weeks’ imprisonment.
According to police, the incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. when police stationed near the Taylor’s Alley Police Booth, observed Fisher exiting an area known for drug activity. Officers approached her and informed her of a search. During the interaction, Fisher opened her hand, at which point a white, crystal-like substance fell to the ground. The substance was retrieved and later confirmed to be crack cocaine.
Fisher was subsequently detained and charged, leading to her latest conviction.
