By Zoila Palma: The National Meteorological Service of Belize have issued a 24-hour fire risk forecast warning of elevated wildfire danger across Belize, particularly in northern areas, following multiple hotspots detected by satellite imagery over the past day.
Several fires were observed across the country, with the northern half experiencing the most activity.
In the northern districts—Corozal, Orange Walk, and Belize—temperatures are expected to peak between 90 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit, with relative humidity dropping to between 65 and 75 percent by mid-afternoon.
Meanwhile, Cayo, Stann Creek, and Toledo—will experience slightly cooler temperatures, with a high around 84 degrees Fahrenheit and higher humidity levels near 97 percent.
The extended forecast suggests that the threat of fires will remain high through midweek as warm and dry conditions continue.
