Hattieville mechanic convicted of theft for stealing sand and gravel

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Tyrone Roman August, 37, a mechanic from Bainsville Community in Hattieville Village, was convicted of theft for stealing $75 worth of sand and gravel from his neighbor, businessman Antonio Escalante.

In court on Tuesday, August pleaded guilty to the charge, explaining that he took the materials to help a single mother in need. He was fined $250 plus court costs and ordered to pay $75 in compensation to Escalante by August 31, 2024, or face three months in prison.

The theft occurred on June 25, 2024, when Escalante noticed the missing materials from his property and found evidence at August’s residence.
