By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are searching for several persons of interest following the murder of 19-year-old Dodrick Salvador Miguel Madrill, who was gunned down on Freedom Street in Belize City on Thursday morning.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith, officers patrolling the area around 7:20 a.m. on October 29 were alerted to gunshots and subsequently discovered that Madrill had been fatally wounded.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Madrill was walking along Freedom Street when a vehicle approached. An individual exited the vehicle and fired several shots at the teenager, causing his fatal injuries.
Smith confirmed that investigators have made progress in identifying the vehicle believed to have been used in the murder, as well as several persons of interest who are now being sought by police.
Madrill was previously before the courts on firearm-related charges. In February 2025, Breaking Belize News reported that Madrill, then 18, was remanded to prison after pleading guilty to possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 13 live rounds of ammunition.
The firearm had been discovered during a police search at a Freedom Street residence on January 29, 2025. Madrill was charged alongside three relatives but accepted responsibility for the weapon. During the proceedings, his attorney told the court he was a first-time offender, while Madrill expressed remorse and appealed for leniency.
Asked whether Madrill had any other criminal charges on record, Smith said she had not researched his background and could not provide further information.
Police have not established a motive for Thursday’s murder, and investigations remain ongoing.
