By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Guinea Grass Village man has been charged with theft after an elderly woman reported that he failed to return with her bicycle and money she had given him to purchase medication.

According to police information, the 78 year old woman reported that on September 8, a man she had known for many years visited her home in Guinea Grass Village.

During their conversation, she reportedly told him that she was ill and needed medication.

The woman said she gave him $20 and asked him to go to a pharmacy on her behalf.

Because he was on foot, she also allowed him to use her black 26 inch gents beach cruiser, valued at $435, so he could return more quickly.

Police say the man allegedly failed to return with either the medication, the money or the bicycle.

The woman later requested court action.

Police identified the accused as Andres Batun, a labourer of Guinea Grass Village.

He was detained and later formally arrested and charged with theft.

The total value of the allegedly stolen property and cash is $455.
