By Zoila Palma: During cabinet’s meeting on October 27, 2026, cabinet reviewed and discussed a paper entitled “Addressing the Rising Cost of Living/Affordability.”
The objective of the paper was to present practical, short-term fiscal, policy and regulatory measures that would mitigate immediate cost-of-living pressures for Belizean households, particularly low- and middle-income families affected by food price increases, fuel costs and housing/rent costs.
A statement from the Government of Belize noted that specific measures and decisions were adopted, which will form the basis of a Cost of Living Plan that will be finalized and approved by Cabinet at its next meeting.
The proposed measures will be implemented initially for the period November 2026 to March 2027.
