By Breaking Belize News Staff: An employee is accused of taking Jeep’s slogan “Go Anywhere. Do Anything,” a little too serious after allegedly taking his employer’s vehicle and failing to return it. He has since been charged and remanded to prison after appearing in court.

Thirty-eight-year-old John Alexander Roches Hendy, a resident of Mile 10 on the Philip Goldson Highway, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of taking a conveyance without authority or consent. Hendy, who was unrepresented, appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where no plea was taken.

He was granted bail in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety; however, he was unable to meet bail and has since been remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Hendy is scheduled to return to court on June 17, 2026.

The charge stems from a report made by a 69-year-old Canadian retiree residing in Ladyville Village. The Canadian reported to Ladyville police that on Thursday, April 16, Hendy left to carry out routine work duties within the village but did not return with his 2015 black Jeep Commander, valued at $15,000.

Also missing at the time were tools including a post hole digger, a weed eater, and a machete, bringing the total value of items to $15,260. The Canadian retiree told police that Hendy did not have permission to take the vehicle beyond his assigned duties.

Following the report, police issued an alert and later that same day located the vehicle in Hendy’s possession in San Ignacio. The Jeep was recovered and impounded. Hendy was subsequently detained and handed over to Ladyville police on April 18, where he was formally charged.
