By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man is on remand after he was accused of stealing his ex-common-law wife’s cellphone and threatening her niece with a box cutter on the same day an interim protection order against him reportedly expired.

Forty-six-year-old Thyron Edward Lamb, a labourer of North Creek Extension, appeared unrepresented before newly appointed Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed in Court #7 of the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was read charges of theft and aggravated assault.

Lamb pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The theft charge alleges that on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Belize City, Lamb dishonestly appropriated a black Samsung Note 8 cellphone with case, valued at $985, the property of a woman.

He was also charged with aggravated assault upon another woman with a deadly instrument, namely a utility knife, also described as a box cutter.

According to police facts, the complainant reported that around 7:00 a.m. that day, she and her niece were walking on Elston Kerr Street toward Cemetery Road when she saw Lamb, whom she identified as her ex-common-law husband.

She told police that she gave her cellphone to her niece to record video of Lamb allegedly passing close to her. She alleged that Lamb then grabbed the phone from her niece and walked away toward Cemetery Road.

Police say the niece followed Lamb in an attempt to retrieve the phone, but Lamb allegedly pulled out a yellow box cutter from his pants pocket, pointed it at her, and made stabbing motions, causing her to fear for her life.

His ex further alleged that Lamb later posted videos of himself in a chat group.

There was no objection to bail, but the prosecution requested conditions. Magistrate Mohammed granted Lamb bail in the sum of $2,000 plus two sureties of $1,000 each, with the condition that he stay at least 50 feet away from the victim.

However, Lamb was unable to meet bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until he is able to do so.

His next court date is set for June 9, 2026.
