By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Alberto August is out. He is not softened. And he has a very specific message for Police Minister Oscar Mira.
⠀
After spending 28 hours behind bars at the San Ignacio Police Station over a Facebook post Prime Minister John Briceño stepped in personally to secure August’s release following appeals from senior UDP figures. Senator Peyreffitte, the Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena and the former party leader all went directly to the Prime Minister and August confirmed that intervention is what ultimately led to him being granted a station bail.
⠀
When 7News asked if he was grateful to the Prime Minister August gave an answer that summed up exactly how he feels about the entire situation.
⠀
“It is like me for example saying right if you shoot me in my foot I will thank you for picking me up and taking me to the hospital. You should not have shot me in the foot in the firstance.”
⠀
Translation. The PM would not have needed to intervene if his own minister had not created the problem in the first place.
⠀
August then turned his full fire on Mira directly and did not hold back a single word.
⠀
“Man they people with they kind of character should not be wielding the power.”
⠀
“This man is unfit totally unfit to lead the police department that is why we are facing the level of criminality in this country. Unfit. You wonder what it is then that he discusses in these police meetings if you mind is so small and your skin is so thin.”
⠀
August has a cybercrime charge ahead of him and a court date to face. But he walked out of custody saying exactly what he thinks about the man who put him in that cell.
⠀
And Belize is listening to every word.
