The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Jaime Sanchez, Daniel John, 21-year-old Danny Lino and Jocelyn Garrido.
During Monday’s police press briefing, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided details of the four fatal accidents, which occurred between Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1.
The first incident occurred on Saturday in Billy White Village, Cayo District, where Sanchez was riding a motorcycle that collided with the rear of a pickup truck driven by Elmer Mendoza.
According to police, Mendoza reported that he had signaled his intention to turn and stopped his vehicle when he heard a loud impact. Upon checking, he discovered that Sanchez’s motorcycle had crashed into the back of his pickup. Sanchez was transported for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
On Sunday, Daniel John lost his life in another accident along Bullet Tree Road in the Cayo District. Police said John was driving a Kia when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a lamppost. He was taken for medical treatment but subsequently died from his injuries.
Another fatal accident occurred on Sunday along Yo Creek Road in the Orange Walk District, claiming the life of 21-year-old Danny Lino.
Police reported that Lino was returning from the Mexican border area when he lost control of the van he was driving, causing it to overturn. He sustained serious injuries and later died.
Three passengers survived the crash, including a 22-year-old woman, a 16-year-old and an 18-month-old baby. All three received medical attention.
The fourth fatal accident occurred between Miles 44 and 45 on the George Price Highway on Sunday.
According to Romero, a pickup driven by Mario Cano was attempting to turn when a motorcycle carrying two people collided with the vehicle.
Motorcycle passenger Jocelyn Garrido sustained serious injuries and later succumbed while receiving medical treatment.
The motorcycle’s driver, Benedicto Guerra, was also injured and received medical attention.
Police confirmed that Notices of Intended Prosecution were served in connection with the accidents involving Sanchez and Garrido, while investigations into all four fatal collisions remain ongoing.
