By Zoila Palma: The Belize Forest Department issued a statement today informing all logging license holders, permit holders, and stakeholders that the 2025–2026 logging season will officially close on July 15th, 2026, at which time all felling, harvesting, hauling, and transportation of logs, timber, and timber products conducted under approved logging licenses and permits must cease.
The Forest Department reminded that for any approved movement of logs prior to the closure, each consignment must be accompanied by:
- A valid Waybill
- All logs bearing both the registered Property Brand Mark and the official Forest Department Hammer Stamp on both ends
- A valid Permission to Haul (issued on a per-load basis)
To facilitate an orderly closing of the season, all requests for permission to haul must be submitted through the respective Forest Department Range Office for processing and approval.
Such requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and approval is not automatic. The Forest Department may conduct additional field verification and inspections to confirm compliance with licensing requirements, royalty payments, and other applicable conditions before any permission is granted.
In addition, the deadline for petty permits on private or leased lands is absolute; no new petty permits will be issued after July 15, 2026, and the transportation of forest products harvested under these permits will be strictly prohibited past this date.
“The Forest Department maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal operations and reminds all operators that any log consignment found without the required documentation and markings will be immediately detained, inspected and investigated in pursuant to the Forest Act and its associated regulations. Any person or entity found in violations of these directives will be prosecuted under the Forest Act,” the department said.
The Forest Department said that it appreciates the cooperation of all licensees, permit holders, and forest operators in ensuring the sustainable management of Belize’s forest resources and compliance with national forestry regulations.
