By Zoila Palma: On July 29, 2025, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) welcomed Osmond Martinez, Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation and Area Representative for Toledo East for an official visit to its headquarters.
Minister Martinez met with FFB President Sergio Chuc, General Secretary Ian Jones, Technical Director Philip Marin, and Sports Psychologist Sharon Palacio.
Discussions focused on football infrastructure, investment, and development.
High on the agenda was the stalled completion of a five-a-side synthetic pitch in Punta Gorda, delayed due to lease issues.
During the meeting, Dr. Martinez called the Minister of Natural Resources who gave his approval for the lease to be issued.
Chuc pledged to immediately complete the project, ensuring access for Toledo’s football community.
The FFB also committed to supporting Dr. Martinez’s proposed football project in Bella Vista, aimed at boosting youth participation through a new synthetic pitch.
Broader discussions included football’s role in fostering social cohesion and economic growth.
Dr. Martinez also pledged to help connect the FFB with strategic investors to support its long-term vision: including a planned 100-room convention-style hotel to boost sports tourism and training infrastructure.
“The FFB deeply values partnerships with national leaders like Dr. Martinez, whose passion and proactive leadership align with the Federation’s mission to use football as a driver of transformation and national progress,” a statement from the FFB noted.
