By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) is mourning the tragic loss of two of the country’s promising young talents, Sidney and David Montenegro, who died in a road traffic accident on Sunday, June 8.
The fatal crash occurred between miles 51 and 52 on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway. The siblings, residents of Bella Vista Village, were returning home from a swim at the Bladen River when the accident occurred. Both were pronounced dead on the scene. Police investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
Sidney, 21, was a rising star in Belizean football. She began her career with Rumberas and most recently played for the Sagitun Girlz. Just days before her death, Sidney helped her team win the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) championship on May 31, earning the right to represent Belize at the upcoming UNCAF tournament in July.
Her younger brother David, 20, had just graduated from Independence High School on June 7, one day before the tragedy. David was a constant presence at Sidney’s games, known for his unwavering support and quiet strength.
In an official release, the FFB said, “Sidney and David lived with purpose and left behind a legacy of love, unity, and strength. The football family mourns. May their souls rest in eternal peace.”
Sidney was born on January 19, 2004, and David on May 22, 2005. Their deaths have left a deep void in the Bella Vista Village and the national football family.
