By Rubén Morales Iglesias: With just hours to go until the highly anticipated Belize vs. Costa Rica Concacaf Gold Cup Qualifier, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has announced a final ticket sale, sparking a last-minute rush for fans eager to witness the historic match.
The FFB confirmed earlier on Friday that only the final 100 tickets are available, going on sale at 9:00 am at the FFB headquarters in Belmopan.
“Once those tickets are sold out, no tickets will be available at the gate tonight!” the FFB warned via social media, urging fans to secure their spot.
The match, set to kick off at 8:00 pm tonight at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, sees Belize facing a daunting challenge against a formidable Costa Rican side in the first leg of the qualifier. The return leg is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, in Costa Rica.
The lead-up to the crucial encounter has been marred by controversy, with the FFB facing criticism for its lack of transparency regarding the official roster. This secrecy, coupled with reports of internal tensions and player dissatisfaction over reduced stipends and fees, has fueled frustration among Belizean fans.
Despite the challenges, the FFB is calling on all Belizeans to rally behind the team.
“FFB is the place to be tonight for the Belize vs Costa Rica match! Don’t miss out on all the action,” the FFB posted online, highlighting the significance of the event.
The match holds immense importance for Belizean football, and with the final tickets selling fast, the atmosphere at the FFB Stadium is expected to be electric. Fans are hoping that the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT), led by key players like Angelo Capello and Carlos Bernardez, will rise to the occasion and deliver a memorable performance.
The FFB has recently seen President Sergio Chuc re-elected as CONCACAF Vice President for the Central American region, and fans would certainly like to see our Belize Men’s National Team rise to such prominence on the field. Tonight’s match will be a crucial test for the BMNT team as they seek to overcome adversity and secure a vital result on home soil.
