By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City father of two is spending his first night behind bars after being arraigned on firearm-related charges stemming from a police bust earlier this week.

Kenroy Caine, 37, a security guard and freelance landscaper, was arraigned in Court #3 on charges of kept unlicensed firearm and kept ammunition without a gun license. The charges were brought after police found a black .38 Special revolver and five live .380 rounds hidden under the seat of his motorcycle during a routine checkpoint stop.

According to police, Caine was seen acting nervously and sweating profusely, prompting officers to conduct a search. When ordered to open his motorcycle seat, Caine reportedly threw an object into nearby bushes, which was quickly recovered by officers and found to be the loaded firearm.

Caine, who was riding with a friend, George Gordon Jr., took full responsibility for the weapon, telling the court he had found the gun while working on a yard along Faber’s Road and was on his way to turn it in at the Belama Police Station. As a result of Caine’s admission, the charge against Gordon Jr. was withdrawn, and he was released.

Caine’s attorney, Ronell Gonzalez, asked the court to consider a non-custodial sentence, emphasizing that Caine is a family man with no previous convictions. However, the prosecution argued that firearm offenses have become rampant, especially involving motorcycles in drive-by shootings, and urged the court to send a strong message with a custodial sentence.

The Senior Magistrate deferred sentencing until June 9, 2025, to weigh all submissions. In the meantime, Caine has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
