By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Miss Belize Faith Edgar has secured 5th place in Round 1 of the Miss World People’s Choice Award, and organisers are calling on Belizeans at home and abroad to push her higher.
Edgar is a future dentist and an advocate for public health.
She is the founder of Smiles for Belize, an initiative focused on making oral care accessible in underserved communities. The programme partners with local schools, health professionals and organisations including UNICEF to deliver preventative care and fluoride treatments to children.
Her motivation came from what she saw growing up here. Children hiding their smiles, and families choosing between treating dental pain and covering everyday necessities.
Dr. Phil Bangle, a volunteer dentist who worked alongside her, noted how she stepped up to assist in clinics with confidence and a clear desire to help her own people.
Edgar heads to the Miss World grand finale in Vietnam on September 5.
