By Zoila Palma: The People’s United Party (PUP) held its convention on Sunday, August 30, 2026, to select its mayoral and councilor candidates for the 2027 municipal elections in Belize City.
Following the final count, Eliude Miller emerged victorious as the party’s mayoral candidate.
“I want to say thanks to God, without Him none of this is possible. This has been a very hectic campaign but each and everyday I reminded myself of my favorite Bible verse,” Miller said.
“I really want to thank my family, and all those who have made sacrifices to ensure that I was successful today. I also want to thank the delegates of the People’s United Party for showing me the resounding support that they have showed me today,” Miller added.
Miller said he was pleased with the turnout and the results and expressed excitement about the campaign leading up to the March 2027 municipal elections.
He also thanked his advisors, including Ministers Francis Fonseca and Anthony Mahler, for supporting his campaign.
Miller also expressed enthusiasm in continuing the work of the council and finish the term strongly.
“I have maintained throughout my campaign that politics should never be personal. There is absolutely no contention between Councilor Pollard and I. I have expressed this to him numerous times and there remains absolutely no contention between us and I look forward to working side by side with him so that we could finish out this term strongly and we could ensure success for March of 2027.” Miller expressed.
“I have always had a strong work ethic and I based my campaign around that,” Miller said.
The PUP’s winning councilor candidates are Kaya Cattouse, Sherwin Shilling Garcia, Brendan Bouloy, Kirkland Smith, Simon Noralez, Stephanne Hamilton, Kristian “El Toxico” Alpuche, Edmund Kwan, Dorian Usher, and Darwin “Puppy” Leslie.
