By Zoila Palma:  Belizean households faced higher housing and utility costs in June 2026, with the Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels category recording a 3.9 percent increase compared to June 2025, according to the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).

The SIB’s June report noted that much of the increase was linked to higher electricity and water tariffs that took effect during the first half of the year. Rising home rental costs also contributed to the increase.

The cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) also climbed during the year. The average price of a 100-pound cylinder rose by $9.89, from $128.46 in June 2025 to $138.35 in June 2026. The increase in housing and utility costs formed part of the broader rise in consumer prices across the country.

Other categories also recorded notable increases in June, including Health, which rose by 7.0 percent due to higher medical service costs, including hospitalization and surgery fees.
