By Zoila Palma: Prices within the “Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels” category rose by 1.2 percent in March 2026 when compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).
The increase was driven primarily by higher electricity costs, following a rise in the price per kilowatt hour that took effect at the start of the year.
The adjustment contributed to overall increases in household expenses, particularly for utilities, which form a significant portion of monthly spending.
