By Zoila Palma: On March 6, 2026, Vice President of El Salvador Félix Ulloa met with Minister of State for Economic Transformation Osmond Martínez, and Belize’s Ambassador to El Salvador Lou-Anne Burns Martínez, to explore opportunities for bilateral and regional cooperation.
Discussions included initiatives aimed at promoting joint projects in strategic areas such as agricultural development, climate finance, regional integration, and human capital development.
Vice President Ulloa highlighted the initiatives promoted by the Vice Presidency to strengthen regional integration, including the Diploma Program in Central American Integration, which has already trained more than 700 public servants on this topic.
Minister Martínez highlighted Belize’s interest in strengthening knowledge exchange with El Salvador, especially regarding climate finance and agricultural cooperation, underscoring the importance of this sector for food security and emphasizing the contribution of communities like Valley of Peace, home to a significant Salvadoran population dedicated to vegetable production.
The Trinational Executive Secretary of the Trifinio Plan Jorge Urbina, highlighted opportunities for cooperation in environmental and territorial development matters, noting the interest in advancing a twinning process with one of the region’s most important nature reserves.
Both officials agreed to continue fostering spaces for dialogue and cooperation that allow them to leverage the complementary strengths of both countries and promote joint initiatives.
