As part of the George Sommer Lecture Series hosted by Marist College’s School of Liberal Arts, the English Department presents author, activist, educator, and cultural ambassador Edwidge Danticat as this year’s speaker. Description: Edwidge Danticat is a Haitian American global writer, activist, cultural ambassador, film producer, narrator, and educator who is currently the Wun Tsun Tam Mellon Professor of the Humanities at Columbia University. The focus of her talk is the importance of voice in the context of diaspora writers, belonging, and places/spaces of identity. This event, being held on the first day of Black History Month, is free and open to the public.
