By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Dwayne Wade, a formidable competitor in the amateur cycling circuit, is currently on an impressive roll in the Gons Cycling Thursday Races.
On Thursday, Wade, riding for the BZ-Boyz Cycling Team, clinched another victory in the B Category during a race held on the George Price Highway and John Smith Road, while also securing third place overall. He completed the 23.33-mile course in 55 minutes and 43 seconds, achieving an average speed of 25.1 miles per hour. Jairo Campos won the overall this week.
This week’s success follows his strong performance last week when he dominated the race, finishing first overall and winning the B Category. His win on March 13, spanned 23.24 miles, which Wade completed in 56 minutes and 17 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 24.8 miles per hour.
That race was especially meaningful for Wade, as he rode in honor of his late friend Kenroy ‘Benji’ Reynolds, who tragically passed away the night before in a hit-and-run road traffic accident.
“I rode it for my friend who passed away the night before the race from a hit and run RTA,” Wade said, reflecting on the emotional victory.
Wade’s consistency this year has been nothing short of extraordinary.
“Today 3rd overall and another B Category win. I won overall last week plus 1st B Category. I have won a streak off every B Category that I raced this year in the Gons Thursday Race,” Wade told Breaking Belize News on Thursday.
Known for his tenacity, Wade continues to impress the cycling community, proving his dedication to the sport with each race. His unwavering focus on fitness and disciplined approach have been key drivers of his consistent success in the Gons Thursday Races.
