By Breaking Belize News Staff: Orange Walk police are investigating the killing of a 68-year-old man whose body was discovered near San Lazaro Village on Monday morning.
Police were called to an area near a cane-field road at approximately 9:30 a.m., where they found the lifeless body of a man identified as Virginio Caro.
Caro was observed with several chop wounds. Police remained at the location processing the scene at the time of Monday’s press briefing.
Investigators were told that Caro had left home intending to travel to his farm. A person heading toward one of the nearby cane fields later discovered his body and alerted authorities.
Caro had not been reported missing and police said he had no known criminal background. No motive or suspect has been identified as the investigation continues.
