By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police say a post-mortem examination has determined that 21-year-old Delisha Estrada died from blunt craniofacial trauma and her death has now been classified as a homicide, while toxicology results remain pending in the death of her common-law partner, 31-year-old Michael Williams.
The young couple was found dead inside their Hillview-area home in Santa Elena Town on September 14 after relatives became concerned when they failed to collect their child. Their bodies were already in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police said Tuesday that Williams’ post-mortem examination listed severe pulmonary edema as his cause of death. Investigators are now awaiting toxicology results to determine whether additional factors contributed to his death.
Estrada’s examination, meanwhile, found that she died from blunt craniofacial trauma. Police said the nature of her injuries indicates they may have been inflicted by another person.
Authorities stopped short of classifying the case as a murder-suicide, stressing that the investigation remains ongoing and that no conclusions have yet been reached regarding who inflicted Estrada’s fatal injuries.
Police had previously confirmed that Estrada made several domestic violence reports before her death. Investigators also recovered items of interest from the residence.
Police say the autopsy findings have provided investigators with new information as they attempt to reconstruct what happened inside the home.
