By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Corozal school teacher has been formally arrested and charged in connection with serious allegations of sexual crimes against a minor. Fausto Burgos, a 40-year-old teacher from Louisville Village, was taken into custody by police yesterday, following a formal investigation.
The allegations stem from a period between January and March of 2024, when Burgos is accused of committing three counts of rape and one count of sexual aggression against a female student who is now 17 years old. The victim’s mother reportedly informed police of the alleged crimes, leading to an immediate investigation.
As part of the proceedings, a medical examination was conducted, and a doctor certified that the young woman had been violated. This critical piece of evidence prompted officials to move forward with the case. The police have since compiled a file and submitted it to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a formal indictment.
Burgos is expected to appear in court to face the serious charges against him.
