Copa América 2024: Panama stun United States 2-1, Uruguay blast Bolivia 5-0

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Panama shocked the United States 2-1 in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024 on Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Florian Balogun put the United States ahead 1-0 even in the 22^nd minute just after Tim Weah was red carded in the 18^th minute.

However, Panama rallied back and levelled the score in the 26^th through César Blackman’s goal.

Jose Fajardo put the game away in the 82^nd.

Panama had one of their own sent to the showers early as Adalberto Carrasquilla was red carded as well in the 88^th minute.

Despite the win, Panama, now with three points like their opponents, trail the United States and are in third place in Group C. Uruguay lead the group with six points while Bolivia trail without any.

For their part Uruguay ran over Bolivia in a 5-0 trouncing at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Uruguay’s goals were scored by Facundo Pellistri (8’), Darwin Núñez (21’), Maximiliano Araujo (77’), Federico Valverde (81’), and Rodrigo Bentancur (89’).

For Matchday 3, Panama will play Bolivia while the United States will tackle Uruguay on Monday, July 1.

The Group D teams play their second match on Friday. Costa Rica challenge Colombia at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona at 4:00 pm while Brazil face Paraguay at 7:00 pm at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
