By Zoila Palma:  The 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) concluded in Antigua and Barbuda with leaders agreeing on an ambitious programme aimed at strengthening trade, investment and economic prosperity across the organisation’s 56 member countries.

The summit was hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and chaired by Prime Minister Gaston Browne under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.”

The two-day meeting brought more than 4,000 delegates to St. John’s, where leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation and promote sustainable economic growth.

Preparatory meetings involving Commonwealth ministers responsible for small states and foreign affairs were held on November 1 and 2, helping shape the agenda ahead of the leaders’ discussions.

Women, young people, civil society representatives and business leaders also participated in parallel forums, sharing recommendations and perspectives that contributed to the final communiqué issued at the conclusion of the summit.

A major outcome of CHOGM 2026 was the mobilization of more than US$500 million in new financial commitments for initiatives targeting renewable energy, youth skills development, trade and economic growth.
