Common-law husband must vacate house he shares with partner following assault charges

By Aaron Humes: A Sandhill, Belize District resident is out on bail pending trial for committing an alleged assault upon his live-in common-law wife during a domestic dispute.

Accused of aggravated assault is Floyd Anthony Jones, who allegedly committed the assault on Wednesday, May 1, at the shared residence in Sandhill.

Jones pleaded not guilty to the charge and since the prosecutor had no objection to bail being offered to him, the Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola offered him bail with conditions in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount, which he met by 12 noon today.

Jones must not interfere with the virtual complainant or any members of her family and is not to be seen within 100 yards of the complainant, but this presents a problem as they lived inside the same residence prior to Wednesday.

The Chief Magistrate told Jones that he must visit the Belize Police Department and get the assistance of the Police so he could get his personal items from the house.
