By Breaking Belize News Staff: Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado has strongly rejected allegations circulating on social media suggesting that police officers were responsible for Friday’s quadruple murder along the Coastal Plain Highway.
The Commissioner addressed the allegations during Sunday’s emergency police briefing after reporters questioned increased security operations along the highway.
Rosado explained that a specialized Highway Interdiction Team had been established to monitor the movement of suspected criminals through the relatively isolated corridor.
He confirmed that a vehicle checkpoint was being operated by police and security personnel in the area.
However, Rosado categorically denied suggestions that members of the security forces were involved in the October 30 massacre.
He defended the officers assigned to the highway operations, describing them as members of a vetted unit.
The Commissioner maintained that the highway operation was intended to prevent criminal activity and intercept individuals travelling through the area.
His comments came after social media speculation attempted to link the presence of heavily armed security personnel along the highway to the killings.
Police have instead attributed the quadruple murder to an internal gang dispute, based on intelligence gathered during the ongoing investigation.
