By Aaron Humes: A police officer may be in even bigger trouble with his bosses after a complaint by a female colleague was dropped.

Despite reportedly confessing to beating his female colleague, charges filed against the constable internally were dropped on Monday.

But not for long, as according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, he was informed and promptly intervened to request with Deputy Bart Jones that the matter proceed to trial. Williams told Channel 7 News, “In light of the outcome of the tribunal today (Thursday), I will have the legal office review the matter and see if all the proper processes were followed leading up to the decision of the adjudicator. As a men-dominated department, we must ensure equality [among] our members. This means that we men must respect the rights of our women colleagues.” He has advised the complainant not to withdraw the case. Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa said he has requested details from the Commissioner and deplored the allegations if they are true.

The victim had refused monetary compensation to drop the case. The accused had reportedly paid her hospital bills but this did not absolve him, the Commissioner said.

Reports are that on May 31  the female officer, a resident of Belmopan, was dropping off colleagues at their respective homes, following a work trip to Hopkins.

While the female officer was dropping off the accused at his house, he reportedly went inside and walked back outside, pulled open the passenger door of the officer’s vehicle, punched her repeatedly in her face, and pulled her out of the vehicle by her hair as he continued to beat her. He later claimed that he had mistaken her for someone else.

The accused officer also faces criminal charges.
