Charlie Slusher returns to lead BMNT after brief FFB reshuffle

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After a brief stint on the sidelines, Charlie Slusher is back at the helm of the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) as Head Coach, leading the squad into Saturday’s international friendly against Atlanta United B in Georgia.

Slusher, a long-serving figure in Belizean football, had remained part of the technical staff during the last two international matches, but was not in charge. The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) had temporarily appointed Daniel Bartolotta, a Mexican coach, to lead the team during that period. The decision drew mixed reactions from the football community, with many calling for a return to Belizean leadership.

Now reinstated as Head Coach, Slusher is joined by Assistant Coach Shane Orio, Goalkeeper Coach Joshua Lamb, Physical Trainer Dennis Serano, and Physiotherapist Thomas Rivars. The team is managed by Melanie Matute, with FFB President Sergio Chuc serving as Head of Delegation and General Secretary Ian Jones also traveling with the squad.

The BMNT departed Belize on Thursday morning and will face Atlanta United B at 10:00 am (8:00 am Belize) on Saturday, September 6 at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground. The match is part of a broader initiative supported by the Belize Tourism Board, aimed at promoting Belizean football and national pride abroad.

The traveling squad includes:

• Players: Charles Tillett, Brandon Jones, Nahjib Guerra, Naim Wilson, Jaylen Lennan, Alence Ayala, Deshawon Nembhard, Marlon Meza, Darrel Myvette, Andir Chi, Eddie Williams, Carlos Bernardez, Krisean Lopez, Eldon Reneau, Desmond Wade, Gabriel Ramos
• Joining the team in Atlanta: Michael Salazar and Isaac Castillo

The fixture comes during a Premier League of Belize (PLB) break, with no domestic matches scheduled this weekend. League play resumes on Saturday, September 13, when Belmopan FC hosts Port Layola at Isidoro Beaton Stadium.
