By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Cayo District’s Belize Christian Academy (BCA) claimed the top spot as the new champions of the National Primary Schools Boys Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Toledo Community College in Punta Gorda, Toledo. With last year’s champions, the Cayo San Marcos’ boys, not qualifying for the national tournament this year, the path was clear for new champions to emerge.
Organized by the Belize National Sports Council, the national championship featured top volleyball talent from 12 primary schools across the country. The boys’ championship matches were held at the Toledo Community College gym, with the final match taking place at the Toledo Sports Auditorium alongside the girls’ championship. The BCA boys were quite resilient and persevering in the final, winning 2-1 (25-20, 18-25, 15-10) over Stann Creek’s Independence Primary School (IPS).
Independence Primary School earned second place, while Toledo Christian Academy (TCA) claimed third place after a hard-fought match against Orange Walk’ Chan Pine Ridge.
BCA’s Alejandro Penner was named MVP of the tournament, demonstrating outstanding athleticism and leadership throughout the competition.
As the new champions, the BCA boys have established themselves as formidable contenders in future tournaments, and already have their eyes set on the next national championship.
