By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Recently, a team from the CARICOM Secretariat met with Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise; Ambassador Lawrence Sylvester, Belize Ambassador to CARICOM and other stakeholders including tertiary students, representatives from civil society, and Government representatives to discuss the implementation of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME).
The CSME seeks to implement provisions for the removal of trade and professional restrictions.
These provisions facilitate the right to establishment businesses, to provide regional services, the free movement of capital and the coordination of economic policies.
The CARICOM Secretariat team members included Titus Preville, Director CARICOM Single Market; Gladys Young, Assistant General Counsel; Salas Hamilton, Specialist Communications; Wanya Illes, DPM Free Movement and Labour and Bernard Black, SPO Customs and Trade Policy.
The mission was supported with assistance from the 11th European Development Fund.
