By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Government of Belize has approved changes to the country’s sugar pricing policy following a review by Cabinet at its October 28 meeting.
Cabinet considered the pricing of regulated plantation white and brown sugar for industrial use, factoring in freight distance to ensure fairness in distribution and cost. After discussion, Cabinet approved the establishment of regulated prices for these industrial products while simultaneously removing price controls on retail-labelled packaged sugar.
The decision is aimed at modernizing the sugar market and supporting producers. Sugar remains one of Belize’s cornerstone agricultural industries, and the adjustment is expected to make the sector more competitive and responsive to changing economic conditions while ensuring consumers continue to benefit from a fair and stable pricing system.
