By Breaking Belize News Staff: Aaron Marlon Castillo, a 37-year-old butcher from Buttonwood Bay, Belize City, was fined $14,087 on Monday after pleading guilty to multiple firearm and ammunition offenses. Castillo and his common-law wife, Jacqueline Lizette Orellana, were arrested on October 26, 2024, after police discovered two unlicensed firearms and 61 rounds of ammunition at their residence.

The police raid led to charges against both Castillo and Orellana, including two counts of keeping an unlicensed firearm and three counts of possessing unlicensed ammunition. Appearing in Court #7 with their attorney, Ronell Gonzalez, Castillo took full responsibility, admitting his failure to renew the licenses, which expired on July 23, 2024. His wife, Orellana, pleaded not guilty and was cleared of all charges following Castillo’s admission.

Castillo explained in mitigation that his demanding schedule had prevented him from renewing the licenses, though he had held them for nine years without incident. The magistrate considered his remorse, lack of prior convictions, and cooperation with authorities, ultimately imposing a fine instead of a custodial sentence. Castillo was fined $10,010 for the firearms and $4,087 for the ammunition, totaling $14,087, which he must pay by February 28, 2025, or face prison time.

The court ordered the firearms forfeited to the Government of Belize, and Castillo, a father of six, will now appeal to the licensing board to regain firearm access.
