Bus shutdown threat heads to Cabinet as Chester Williams responds

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): CEO in the Ministry of Transport Chester Williams says the matter raised by the Belize Bus Association will be dealt with at the Cabinet level next week.

Speaking to 7 News via Zoom late Thursday evening, Williams said he responded to the association’s letter that same afternoon.

“This afternoon I responded to the letter that they had wrote, explaining to them that our ministry will be tabling a cabinet paper at the next cabinet meeting, at which time the cabinet is going to deliberate on that matter,” he said.

The bus operators have said they will park their buses from Monday, August 24, after the three month fuel subsidy agreed in April expired on August 4.

Asked about the association’s claim that it wrote to the Ministry of Transport on July 15 and received no answer before taking the matter to the Prime Minister, Williams did not address the delay directly.

“Like I said, I have replied to the letter this afternoon and had explained to them what the position is.”

The BBA told 7 News it will host a press briefing next week.
